GCUK: How many more false "Hammer film to be made" stories do you think the press will fall for?
TL: I have no doubt that the papers will fall for as many bogus stories as they think will interest their readers. By the same token, they will not print any number of genuine stories if they think their readers are likely to be bored. We have a policy of only announcing deals that have happened, which is why you haven't heard from us in the press since we bought the company a year ago. You will be hearing about genuine deals in the near future.
TL: The US DVDs are distributed by us via our licencee, Magnum/Anchor Bay. Unfortunately, we do not have distribution rights to these titles in the UK and so cannot simply put them on the market here. We are exerting pressure on the company that does have the distribution rights (Canal Plus) to follow our lead and I expect the titles to be released here on DVD eventually.
GCUK: What kind of condition are the masters in? There were reports that this was a cause for concern.
TL: I am pleased to be able to report that the masters to nearly all the films are in excellent condition. Materials for a handful of films, however, were lost many years ago. These will never be recovered. Fortunately, the titles in question are minor films, mostly from the 1930s. All the horror titles are in good shape.
