| (Almost) In The Tapings: Boys and Girls What could you do with 100,000 pounds? Pay off all those debts, go on holiday some place sunnier than Nottingham (not too hard to find) or maybe just blow it all on one big shopping spree? The spending it’s the easy part though. Unless you’ve got fantastically rich parents (and if you have feel free to introduce yourself to me), then I imagine this money is something you can only dream about. However the new Chris Evans show, Boys and Girls, is offering £100,000 to the winner of each show. So I decided to go along to the auditions in Nottingham. Not only was there a chance I could win the cash, maybe I could meet the man himself, the coolest ginger person since, well just since. Sadly there was no sign of the man himself at the auditions. Nor for that matter many other people. The people of Nottingham hadn’t exactly turned up in their droves. The audition itself was pleasingly straightforward. I was expecting all sorts of shenanigans like gunge or assault courses. Or maybe that was the It’s A Knockout auditions. All I got though was the obligatory application form and a rather friendly face to interview with one of the producers. Who told me a little bit about the show. A studio audience of 100 boys and 100 girls would battle it out, with one lucky person coming away with the major cash prize. Sounded simple enough, all that remained was to shoot a piece for camera. Agh cameras! I had forgotten in my lust for money how I actually hated being on camera. I had a face for newspapers. But it was too late to back out now. The producer said it was simple enough, answer a few questions, say a bit about myself, and perform my special talent. Special talent, what was that? Juggling. Not that I can do that very well, at all even, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Armed with the producer’s makeup holder, contact lens case and deodorant I set to work in showing my unique skills to the camera. Needless to say the deodorant went flying across the room, the contact lens case broke and I got makeup all over me. Brown eye shadow, which isn’t even my colour. In the end I think it was a case of don’t call us we’ll call you. There was one ray of hope though. Producer Suzy told me of fresh auditions: “We’ve are touring around looking for people that are quite crazy, lively and up for fun so we are hoping to come back in January.’ If this sounds like you and your up for winning a hundred thousand pounds cash (who isn’t it) and you have a better special talent than me (who doesn’t) then look out for the auditions coming to a town near you. Who knows maybe even Chris Evans might turn up for this one? If you'd like to audition to be a contestant either send an email to boysandgirls@umtv.tv or call 0207 239 9293. Richard McTiernan. |
